Best Phoenix concerts in November 2022: Elton John, Stevie Nicks - The Arizona Republic
Elton John's farewell tour returns to the Valley for a two-night stand at Chase Field in Phoenix a week before a concert by the Zac Brown Band hits that same ballpark.
November also brings a recently rescheduled Stevie Nicks show to Ak-Chin Pavilion and a co-headlining stop at Footprint Center by two acts that helped defined the sound of alternative radio for a generation, Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction.
There are also big arena shows by two Mexican artists, Christian Nodal and Pepe Aguilar.

Mother Mother
These Canadian indie-rockers sold out the Van Buren earlier this year. That's how you graduate to larger venues, which is what they're doing here while still waiting on that breakthrough they deserve on radio. Tracks from Mother Mother's latest album, "Inside," have earned more than 34 million streams worldwide.

Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp
Jeff Beck is bringing Johnny Depp to town in support of "18," an album-length collaboration with the actor (who also plays guitar with Alice Cooper in Hollywood Vampires). Their "18" album is a mix of Depp originals and covers ranging from the Beach Boys to Killing Joke.

Gogol Bordello
Named for Ukrainian novelist Nikolai Gogol, these gypsy-punk anarchists from New York City's Lower East Side have a reputation for outrageously theatrical performances. Fresh from thrilling the crowd at Riot Fest, where they were joined by the Hromovytsia Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Chicago, they're here in support of "Solidaritine."

Black Flag
The great Greg Ginn returns with something he feels comfortable promoting as Black Flag, the hardcore punk legends whose sound was defined in part by Ginn's guitar work, which sounded as brilliant as ever on 2013's "What The...," which remains their latest album. It's a proper Southern California blowout with TSOL, Dickies and Total Chaos.

Blood Red Shoes
The British indie-rock duo of Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell are touring the States in support of "Ghosts on Tape," a synth-heavy gems of an album inspired in part by true crime documentaries and podcasts. You can definitely feel that unsettling sense of dread and paranoia underscoring the tension they bring to these tracks.

Marc Rebillet
The YouTuber brings his improvised funk and hip-hop-flavored EDM to Mesa Amphitheatre for an evening of live looping under the stars. He was a hit at Life is Beautiful, were highlights of his set included an unexpected walk-on by the Blue Man Group.

John Petrucci
The guitarist's instrumental trio features former Dream Theater bandmate Mike Portnoy on drums and Dave Larue on bass. This is Petrucci's first headlining solo tour and the first time in 12 years that he and Portnoy have performed together. The tour is in support of "Terminal Velocity," which also features Portnoy and Larue.

Christian Nodal
By the time he was 19, this Sonoran singer-songwriter had sent five singles to the top of the Mexican Regional charts while earning more than a trillion visits to his YouTube channel. He's 23 now and heading to Phoenix on his Forajido Tour in support of a new EP that sent another hit to No. 1, "La Sinvergüenza."

Death From Above 1979
The Canadian dance-punk duo of Jesse F. Keeler and Sebastien Grainger are touring the States in continued support of last year's "Is 4 Lovers" with special guests the OBGMs. Highlights of their latest effort range from the swaggering post-punk riffs of "Modern Guy" to the bittersweet piano balladry of "Love Letter."

Pepe Aguilar
The Mexican singer's Jaripeo sin Fronteras Tour spent two years filling every venue it played across the U.S. and Mexico. The tour is a massive production with more than 40 musicians on stage, combining music with bullfighting and rodeo events and equestrian acrobatic performances. Aguilar has won four Grammys and five Latin Grammys.

Stevie Nicks
The Phoenix-born singer is coming home with special guest Vanessa Carlton. This rescheduled concert is Nicks' first solo performance in the Valley since 2016 when she launched the 24 Karat Gold Tour in downtown Phoenix. But she was here with Fleetwood Mac in 2018 on their first tour since parting ways with Lindsey Buckingham.

Cafe Tacvba
Rolling Stone once praised the preeminent Mexican band to emerge from the Rock en Español movement of the early '90s for having "continually defined the cutting edge of Latin alternative music" for more than a quarter-century. They're also way more fun to watch than most bands that routinely get referred to as the Radiohead of their scene.

Preoccupations
These Canadian post-punk revivalists are here in support of "Arrangements," an album partially recorded by remote due to the social distancing of COVID-19. It's all very moody, but therein lies the dystopian magic of songs that often seem to be channeling David Bowie's darkest hours without getting too close for comfort, per CDC guidelines.

Lupita D'Alessio y Maria Jose
These Latin pop stars have joined forces on the Aquí Estoy Yo Tour. D'Alessio is a Mexican singer who moved into acting after performing the theme song for the telenovela Mundo de juguete. Jose is touring in support of a forthcoming album that finds her interpreting hits from '80s and '90s, from María Conchita Alonso to Ana Gabriel.

Belinda Carlisle
It's been a year since Carlisle took her rightful place, at long last, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Go-Go's, who emerged from the mosh pit with the most contagious slumber-party soundtrack of their generation, "Beauty and the Beat." This set will likely focus more on solo hits as great as "I Get Weak" and "Heaven is a Place on Earth."

Turnstile
These hardcore punks will be through Phoenix next year on the much-hyped Blink-182 reunion with estranged guitarist Tom DeLonge. In the meantime, they're bringing their headlining tour in continued support of last year's "Glow" to the Van Buren. "Glow" made Rolling Stone's list of the year's best albums. They're joined by Snail Mail.

Melt-Banana
The Japanese noise-rock legends, now performing as a duo, haven't hit us with new music since 2013's "Fetch," which found them rocking with reckless abandon and headphone-melting clatter. That may be why they're calling this the Reboot Tour. They're joined by Ed Schrader's Music Beat, Deaf Club and Psychic Graveyard.

Ateez
The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism has labeled these K-pop sensations "4th Generation Leaders." They're bringing the Fellowship: Break the Wall World Tour to Glendale in support of "The World EP.1: Movement," their highest-charting U.S. effort.

Maneskin
The Loud Kids Tour is Maneskin's first headlining tour of North America. The Italian rockers rose to fame after finishing second Season 11 of the Italian "X Factor" in 2017. They won the Eurovision Song Contest for Italy last year with "Zitti e buoni" and picked up an MTV Video Music Award this year for the Iggy Pop duet "I Wanna Be Your Slave."

Wisin y Yandel
Latin music's most iconic duo brings their final tour to Arizona Federal Theatre in support of a new album, "La Última Misión." The tour will make 25 stops across the U.S. before wrapping at the Coliseo de PR Jose Miguel Agrelot on the duo's home island, Puerto Rico.

Celebrated as the U.K.'s best-emerging artist at the 2020 NME Awards, she more than lived on to that promise on the same year's "Fake It Flowers." Beabadoobee is touring the States in support of the next step in her stunning evolution, this year's excellent "Beatopia," which features strings by Georgia Ellery of Black Country, New Road.

Dave Alvin/ Jimmie Dale Gilmore
These roots-music legends earned raves in 2018 for an album called "Downey to Lubbock" which found them exploring the thousand miles that separate their individual stomping grounds of southern California and west Texas. Now they're touring together at the helm of Alvin's band the Guilty Men with Hans Olson as local support.

Elton John
This is the second stop in metro Phoenix for the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, having played Glendale in early 2019. That nearly three-hour performance struck a bittersweet balance between what amounts to a victory lap and an emotional acknowledgment that a lot of those fans would never see the man perform again.

The undisputed kings of Viking heavy metal bring the Great Heathen Tour, which a press release promises will be "the death metal raid of the year... razing 27 cities to the ground in its wake," to downtown Phoenix. They're joined by Carcass, Obituary and Cattle Decapitation.

Celebrating David Bowie
Todd Rundgren and David Bowie guitarist Adrian Belew (also of King Crimson, Talking Heads and more) are joined by Spacehog's Royston Langdon, Fishbone's Angelo Moore, Jeffrey Gaines, Scrote, Ron Dziubla, Narada Michael Walden, Angeline Saris and Michael Urbano in this tribute to the once and future Ziggy Stardust.

Hiroshima
This is the last stop on Domo Tour, which the members of Hiroshima have said will be their final tour after nearly 50 years of blending smooth jazz, R&B, salsa and Eastern music while incorporating traditional Japanese instrumentation. They're joined by Naturally 7.

Rina Sawayama
V magazine hailed this pop sensation as "one of the decade's most captivating figures." Her biggest U.S. tour to date hits downtown Phoenix in support of "Hold the Girl," a gem of an album that offset emotional ballads as majestic as "To Be Alive" with arthouse disco jams and songs that make you wonder why she doesn't enter Eurovision already.

La Luz

They're joined by Naked Giants.

Smashing Pumpkins/Jane's Addiction
In 2018, a somewhat reunited Smashing Pumpkins (everyone but D'arcy) launched their Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour in Glendale and returned before the year was out on a tour celebrating their 30th anniversary. Now they're on a co-headlining tour that's sure to hit '90s alternative radio listeners where they live with Jane's Addiction.

Joe Bonamassa
Cited by Guitar World as "arguably the world's biggest blues guitarist," Bonamassa has almost single-handedly redefined the blues-rock genre and taken it back to the mainstream, topping the Billboard blues chart with no fewer than 25 albums. That's the most appearances at No. 1 by any artist in the history of that chart.

Descendents
It's been 45 years since Descendents started brewing up their overcaffeinated blend of hardcore punk and instantly engaging pop hooks, as brilliantly captured on such pioneering classics of the pop-punk form as "Milo Goes to College" and the aptly titled "I Don't Want to Grow Up." They're joined by Bully and Mercy Music.

Napalm Death
These British grindcore legends sounded as brutal as ever on the eve of their fifth decade as a band as they made their way through the bludgeoning onslaught of 2020's "Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism." They're on the Campaign for Musical Destruction Tour with kindred spirits Brujeria and Frozen Soul.

Zac Brown Band
The country hitmaker's Out in the Middle Tour follows 2021's incredibly successful Comeback Tour, whose name referred to coming back from the pandemic shutdown. In a press release, Brown said, "We're so excited to go back out on the road and keep the unbelievable momentum going... debuting some of the best music we've ever made."

Dave Mason
Dave Mason of Traffic and "We Just Disagree" fame will be joined by special guests Al Stewart ("Time Passages," "Year of the Cat") and Tom Rush in what Danny Zelisko Presents is billing as "3 Legends…One Show!" Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic in 2004.

Matthew Whitaker
Blind since birth, this 21-year-old keyboard prodigy taught himself to play the Hammond B3 organ at 9, going on to become the youngest artist ever endorsed by Hammond. At 10, he was chosen to perform at Stevie Wonder's induction to the Apollo Theater's Hall of Fame. At 17, he won first place in Fox's "Showtime at the Apollo" series.

The Cult
These British rockers enjoyed their first taste of U.S. success in 1985 with "She Sells Sanctuary," an echo-laden post-punk anthem. But they really hit the mainstream two years later with the hard-rocking swagger on "Love Removal Machine" and "Fire Woman," re-imagining Led Zeppelin as the soundtrack to a Gothic horror film.

Kurt Elling
The Grammy-winning jazz singer performs with the Arizona MusicFest Big Band. The New York Times Elling "the standout male vocalist of our time" and the Guardian called him "Sinatra with superpowers" (which seems like a bit of a stretch). He's performing a mix of jazz standards and songs by the likes of the Beatles and Paul Simon.

The Soft Moon
The Soft Moon is Luis Vasquez, who's touring the States on an album of brooding industrial rock and post-punk called "Exister," at times recalling Nine Inch Nails in its cathartic blend of emotional vulnerability and musical intensity. There's nothing especially soft about it, that's for sure. The show also features MSPAINT.

The 1975
The British rockers bring their At Their Very Best North American Tour to downtown Phoenix in support of "Being Funny in a Foreign Language." The Skinny praised the album as "a showcase of The 1975's almighty journey to their peak, and how much they still have to offer."

Eslabon Armado
Formed in 2017, Eslabon Armado won Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Duo/Group and Regional Mexican Artist of the Year, Duo/Group at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in late September. They also won Top Latin Duo/Group at the Billboard Music Awards and Regional Mexican Album of the Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
