This week, I wrote about a pair of siblings — Akihiko Yamamoto and Sharon Lovell — who recently connected after spending seven decades not knowing the other existed. Akihiko was raised in Japan by his mother and knew nothing about his father other than that he was American. Meanwhile, Sharon grew up in California in a loving family. She has vivid memories of seeing her father, John Vierra, crying over the lost child whom he had fathered overseas while serving in the U.S. military.
A chain of DNA matches led Akihoko and Sharon to find each other, and now the brother and sister have developed a strong bond.
Akihoko had always felt abandoned by his father, but now he knows the truth.
"I'm so happy that my dad, our dad, loved me," he said.
